We will assemble on Davis’s deck and watch for the four expected species among the dozens of hummers that visit his feeders: Broad-tailed, Black-chinned, Rufous and Calliope Hummingbirds. Guidance and instruction will focus on identifying the cryptic females/immatures of these species. The event will last three hours.

John Vanderpoel is a lifelong birder and the creator of the Advanced Birding Video Series with Jon Dunn, which includes a volume dedicated to hummingbird identification. In 2011, John undertook a North American Big Year and published the account in Full Chase Mode (Buteo Books) in 2021.

Location: Davis premise near Lyons (Larimer County). Detailed directions will be provided to registrants.

Registration is $10 for members and $20 for non-members.
