Many counts across Colorado

Audubon’s 124th Christmas Bird Count will be held from December 14, 2023 to January 5, 2024! There are counts across Colorado that you can join.

Anyone of any skill level is welcome to join. New to CBCs? Read the short introduction No, You’re Not Too Inexperienced to Join the Christmas Bird Count by Ashley Meadow from Audubon Rockies.

Ashley’s Quick, Step-by-Step Guide to CBCs

  1. Find a group hosting a count (also called a “circle”) near you. New birders are welcome! Find a circle near you.
  2. Email the leader of the circle you’d like to join. I recommend doing this as soon as you can. Many are already making plans and groups can fill up!
  3. The compiler will confirm if their circle is accepting additional participants. If they are, they’ll let you know when and where to meet and what to bring.
  4. On the day of the event, you’ll count birds with your circle of fellow bird lovers.
  5. Remember to check the weather and dress warm.

Brandon Percival, the Colorado CBC Regional Editor, has provided the following list of CBC dates for this year (last updated Dec. 3). Find additional information, including compiler contact info for each circle, on the Audubon website. Compilers for several counts have also provided details on their in the COBirds Google Group over the past month.
