Thanks to a generous anonymous donation, CFO is offering participants in the 2022 Colorado Birding Challenge an opportunity to view the Wuanita Hot Springs Gunnison Sage-Grouse lek April 22.

If you haven’t registered for the challenge, you can learn about the challenge and register at Cobirds.org. Once registered for the challenge, you’re invited to apply for one of only 15 slots available for the grouse trip. There’s no additional charge for the trip, though we encourage you to donate to the challenge if you haven’t already done so. Donations will support CFO and efforts to restore Gunnison Sage-Grouse habitat.

Already Registered? Because you’ve registered for the challenge, you’re invited to register for one of only 15 slots available for that trip. There’s no additional charge for the trip, though we encourage you to donate if you haven’t already done so. You will be responsible for your own travel expenses (meals, transportation, lodging).

Participants meet in Gunnison CO at 6 pm Thursday April 21 for dinner, followed by a classroom presentation on Sage-Grouse conservation and the threat of invasive cheat-grass. Friday morning, the group will visit the blind at Waunita Hot Springs for viewing the Gunnison Sage-grouse lek. We expect to see several male grouse displaying during the early morning hours. After a hearty breakfast, we will visit some grouse habitat to see more birds of the sagebrush ecosystem and witness the problem of invasive cheatgrass. Field trip ends by noon.

Registrants will receive detailed meeting location, and lek viewing guidelines.
