The Colorado Field Workshop Series is an opportunity to improve your skills in identifying birds and put those skills into practice on trips close to home as trips are led throughout the state. Each year's trip has a different focus with past series focusing on shorebirds.
2024 - Theme To Be Announced
With the 2023 convention, held jointly with Western Field Ornithologists, in July, there will not be a 2023 Field Workshop Series. We look forward to a new exciting Field Workshop Series in 2024.

In 2022, the series was focused specifically on shorebird identification.
Eric Hynes presented the online shorebird identification workshop on August 7th, 2021. The field trips were aimed at beginner and intermediate birders and included locations throughout Colorado on the last weekend in August and the first two weekends in September.
Each trip was led by one of CFO's expert guides and limited to just 10 birders.
The 2022 Colorado Field Workshop Series focused on hummingbirds. The focus was on becoming familiar with the more subtle and challenging aspects of identifying the four hummingbirds we generally see in Colorado; including the hard-to-identify female and immature of these species. Rare hummingbirds that visit our state were also discussed. The field trips allowed participants to put what they learn in the online ID workshop into practice.
Field trips, in July and August, included hummingbird banding workshops with federally-licensed banders, visits to homes and businesses with extensive native plantings and/or feeders that attracted many hummingbirds, and wild spaces that hummingbirds frequent.
